Snake is the first thing a lot of us ever programmed, which makes it a good test of feel. This version is about the small things:
- Buffered input. Up to two turns queue up between steps, so a fast "up, left" lands as two moves instead of one being eaten. Reversing straight into yourself is ignored.
- A speed curve that keeps tightening. Every bite takes 2.4 ms off the step time, from 125 ms down to a floor of 58 ms.
- Interpolated movement. The board is a grid, but the body slides between cells every frame, so it reads as motion rather than ticks.
- Phosphor glow, one pass. The whole body glows in a single shadowed fill, not per segment, which keeps it cheap on phones.
- Portrait aware. On tall screens the board flips to 18 × 28 so you're not playing on a strip.
